About This Blog:

This is the third and (hopefully) final location of my personal blog.  I started off with a Blogger account (with google), which I used sparingly.  Then I moved to a Tumblr blog, where I first started blogging more regularly about current events relating to science, atheism, homosexuality, and anything else.  The title was incredibly unoriginal, Musicmancz’s Blog, until I though, “Hey, that name is really really bad…” and found some cool-sounding noun with an adjective infront, and Pointed Rationality was born.  And then at the beginning of this year, I decided I needed a more professional platform than Tumblr, and made this blog, which also started out as Musicmancz’s Blog.  I was struggling to find a better name, and pulled Blog of a Mad, Gay Atheist out of nowhere, and so it was christened.

Of course my blog got a lot of attention thanks to the title, with some people online checking it out only on that fact.  But I wanted more… It was all well and fine to introduce who the author was in the title, but, thanks to an English assignment on existentialism, it might give readers the wrong idea.  I wanted to explain who I was through my posts, not the title (and the full explanation is here).  I was thinking about it one night, and the title literally came out of nowhere, and it is perfect.  So, Knowledge Begetting Confidence was born.

My purpose for this blog is to have a venue to express my ideas and thoughts on various subjects, most of which have to do with my atheism, skepticism, homosexuality, or love of science.  Please leave comments on pieces you find interesting or absolutely hate or ideas for things I could improve upon.

About The Author

Behind the computer screen typing all these posts is a young adult named Charles Czysz.  Charles is your typical teenager studying biology at UNC Chapel Hill.  I came out as atheist after reading The God Delusion, in which I found a name to describe myself.  I was never very religious, and I don’t remember at all believing in god, despite my parents taking me to church for much of the beginning of my life.  My parents were brought up religiously (Dad Catholic and Mom some form of Southern Christianity) but neither are very religious now, just more spiritual.

I am also gay, but not in the stereotypical sense.  I didn’t realize it until I turned 17 at which point I had a girlfriend of 7 months, so it took even longer to come out fully.  Though I live in the South, the city in which I live is way more liberal than most, so I haven’t experienced much homophobia.  My high school is also one of the most gay-friendly in the tri-county area, according to the head of a gay-rights group who was going around to different school’s GSA clubs.  Despite that, I’ve been called fag plenty of times, but mostly online where the homophobe is safe from immediate recourse.  One of the purposes of this blog is to bring to light cases of homophobia, and the irrational opinions they have about gay people.

If you’d like to know more about me, or have suggestions for anything else I should say about myself, don’t hesitate to comment here or send me a tweet over on my twitter.

I think you are living my life. I am a gay, skeptic, atheist who writes a blog and my degree was in Genetics…

Sounds like a complex life you’ve got there. Admire you for being in North Carolina and surviving being gay. Not to over-dramatize the discrimination sometimes, but it’s reassuring to know that young people can be open and comfortable and still flourish as you are.

I saw you covered the Duke College Republican scandal thing earlier and thought you might be interested in learning more about the depth of the depravity Mr. Robinette endured. It’s just ironic that Duke is considered a relatively gay-friendly place, but the reality is far from it. It’s truly sinister at times.
