Minnesota State House Votes to Put Gay Marriage Ban on Ballot

In a 70 to 62 vote, all but 4 Republicans and 2 Democrats of the Minnesota State House voted to put an amendment in next year’s ballot that would change the state constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman.

Marriage equality supporters rallied outside the building and shouted chants of “Shame” at the Republican supporters of the bill as they exited through the side door.

One woman wrote an email to Tony Cornish, one of the bill’s supporters, using a template provided by the HRC, and his reply can be seen in this screenshot:

Yes, give your right for equal rights a rest and let religion and stubborn adherence to the GOP dogma a rest.

A Message to All Christians

Tomorrow is, as I hope most of you know, the date of the Rapture.

If you believe you’re going to be raptured at some time tomorrow, I plead that you make sure you’re not doing anything that could put the people still here in harm’s way. Since there’s no specific time set, I ask that you simply stay indoors all day. Put some food out for the pets, water the flowers, shut off appliances to save energy, and do whatever else you think necessary for your permanent vacation.

And please please do not drive anywhere or operate any kind of motor vehicle. No cars, mopeds, planes, bikes, boats, construction equipment, etc. The people, me included, who will be left behind will very much appreciate it.

George Takei on Tennessee’s Don’t Say Gay bill:

This bill ”[a]s introduced, prohibits the teaching of or furnishing of materials on human sexuality other than heterosexuality in public school grades K-8″. Because homosexuality isn’t age-appropriate, but heterosexuality is.

Takei has his own website which offers more information and merchandise about his campaign against the bill.

Q: Any other reason?
A: Yes. Gay Pride and same-sex marriage. Camping says God will punish America and the rest of the world for Gay Pride and same-sex marriages, just as Sodom and Gomorrah were punished with fire and brimstone in the Old Testament.

I’m guessing the gay Christians won’t get into heaven, then.

Congressman Pete Stark (D-CA), recognized the National Day of Reason yesterday, as opposed to the National Day of Prayer. His statement can be read in its entirety here.

MR. STARK: Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize Thursday, May 5, 2011 as the 2011 National Day of Reason.

The National Day of Reason, observed by millions of people in this country and around the world since 2003, celebrates the application of reason and the positive impacts it has had on humanity. Reason and rational discourse have the power to improve living conditions around the world and cultivate intelligent, moral, and ethical interactions among people

This is something we need in our government, not an encouragement to pray, which people are free to do whenever they want without the government prompting them, but an encouragement to bring reason into the government to solve our problems.

We aren’t fighting the Godless Communists anymore, so we don’t need any forced displays of Christianity.

Coulter: Left Co-opting Gays

I’ve been following videos from this year’s CPAC for the past week, and I’ve been throughly disgusted with the speakers, and especially GOProud, who refuse to accept that many mainstream conservatives are hostile to gay equality.

You know it’s bad when GOProud organizes an event for gays and then invites Ann Coulter as a keynote speaker. Coulter also spoke at CPAC, and said that the left is trying to co-opt gays to serve their evil purposes,

The left is trying to co-opt gays,” she said. “They should be on our side. We watched this for 30 years. The left keeps using one group after another to destroy the family. That is their goal, to destroy the family. Liberals want the family destroyed. Then you have loyalty directly to the state.

Left’s agenda: co-opt minorities, destroy the family, people worship the state, ???, profit.
